Southend is famous for its traditional seaside pier and a site every visitor to the area must see. The present pier was built in 1889 and has since been extended over the years to make it the world’s largest pleasure pier. The Southend Pier spans well over a mile and to make getting around easy and more entertaining it even has its own train. Whilst on the pier not only can you enjoy the great views but also visit its museum, amusement arcades and enjoy time at one of its pubs or restaurants.
For a day of white knuckle rides you should get down to Adventure Island. Unlike most adventure parks admission is absolutely free so you only pay for the rides you want to go on, or if you plan on trying everything you can invest in a good value for money ‘all day wristband’ and just pay a set price for as many rides as you like. What’s more with around 40 attractions to choose from you’ll be spoilt for choice.
Southchurch Hall is a 14th century medieval manor house that now operates as a popular museum open to the general public. The manor house is laid out to reflect life from the Middle Ages, through to Tudor, Stuart and Victorian life. The beauty of the building and the attention to detail of the displays makes for a very interesting day out.
Kids and grown-ups alike will all marvel at the sealife on show at the exciting Sealife Adventure. There’s a great collection of colourful tropical fish, rays and sharks and daily talks to inform and inspire you about life beneath the ocean waves. Tickets cost £5.25 for adults and £3.75 for kids.
